LOCATION: Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew

The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (RBG Kew) is a world famous scientific organisation, internationally respected for its outstanding living collection of plants and Herbarium as well as its scientific expertise in plant diversity, conservation and sustainable development in the UK and around the world. It is also a major international visitor attraction, attracting nearly 2 million visitors a year, and one of the largest organisations of its type in the world. Kew Gardens (the most famous garden in the world) was made a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2003 and celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2009. Following the adoption of a five year strategic business plan in early 2012 and the appointment of a new Director in September 2012, Kew is looking for exceptional candidates for the post of Finance Director.  This person will:

  • Provide leadership and oversight of financial operations, management and control and report to the Director, the Board of trustees and other stakeholders on the outcomes of these activities including the Annual Report & Accounts. 

  • Ensure the accounting function is effective and well managed for a £50m p.a.t/o complex organisation.

  • Provide leadership to a finance function comprising up to 20 people

  • Contribute to identifying alternative revenue opportunities and with a move to a shared services environment, review the structure of finance; ensure the provision of clear, accurate, timely MI and the preparation of statutory accounts for both RBG Kew  and Kew Enterprises Ltd.

A graduate calibre fully qualified accountant you can demonstrate successful Finance function leadership; managing significant change and improving the financial management capability of non finance business managers.  You are familiar with private and either public or not for profit finance, ideally gained in one of the visitor attraction, higher education, cultural or NDPB sectors.
