The main function of the post will be to conduct supervised experiments, supporting and contributing to the Research Section’s ‘Sleeping Beauties’ theme on seed responses to the environment, leading to a greater understanding of species abundance and regeneration.
You will also carry out a literature survey on seed germination and dormancy, and maintain a continual awareness of developing research, submitting a PhD thesis in your fourth year and writing scientific papers for submission to journals.
You will be registered at, and work closely with, the University of Oviedo (Spain), where some of the experiments will be performed, therefore several extended visits are anticipated throughout the duration of the project.
You will have successfully completed an MSc in Plant Molecular Biology, or a related subject, and have two science-related A-levels, or equivalent. With good communication skills, you will have experience of working in a laboratory, gained at university and/or through work experience. A basic awareness of appropriate statistical tests to analyse data and an adequate knowledge of experimental design (e.g. controls and replication) is also required.
