Are you an experienced PostGreSQL DBA seeking an exciting opportunity to work on a cutting edge project for a world leading scientific and cultural institution? If so, we could have the perfect position for you at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Kew is the world-leader in plant and fungal diversity science, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a major visitor attraction.
An opportunity has arisen for an experienced PostGreSQL DBA to join the Science & Horticulture Systems (SHS) project team, a multi-disciplinary, highly skilled and knowledgeable team based in the IT Department.
The successful candidate will create, maintain and support PostGRESQL as required by the SHS Project. They will be responsible for providing expertise in the underlying database platform based on PostgresSQL that will allow the ability to develop, create, maintain and support the delivery of the Science & Horticulture Systems (SHS) project; accountable for the delivery of specialist systems including their planning and deployment and will ensure that stakeholder engagement and management is effective.
The post holder will also be expected to develop and maintain an overview of science at Kew, and work closely with managers, users and stakeholders. If you are an experienced DBA but new to biodiversity informatics then this role is an excellent first step to becoming expert in this exciting and novel field. An enthusiasm for informatics and botanical sciences is a must for this role.
The successful candidate will have extensive real world and theoretical experience of running a complex PostgreSQL database as well as extensive experience of running and maintaining a systems support environment and will have expert PostgreSQL DBA skills. Most importantly of all, the successful candidate will also need to have the technical ability, aptitude and desire required to become a key member of the project team and to learn complex science.
