Due to the restructure of the IT Department at Kew, opportunities now exist to work hands-on at the frontiers of biodiversity science specifically in applications development, information management, product management and IT operations to enable Kew to help answer some of the critical questions essential for better management of the planet's biological resources.
Kew is constantly engaged in the delivery of a wide variety of high profile, collaborative projects with partners from across the globe. We are currently recruiting for one such project, the Science and Horticulture Systems (SHS) project.
The SHS project is a Government funded project tasked initially with developing a plant/fungal names backbone to underpin scientific endeavor at Kew. The project is using cutting edge open source technologies and is widely regarded as setting the benchmark for nomenclature and taxonomy in an active field of biodiversity informatics research.
IT Operations & Service Management
The IT Operations Team design, implement and support the platforms necessary to underpin the Organisation’s scientific systems, both internally and via the Internet. There are also a number of key Back Office systems that are delivered and supported.
This is an exciting time for the Operations Team as the IT infrastructure is currently in the process of being upgraded to further meet and extend the capabilities of all of our systems. With a mixture of open source and off the shelf products as well as cutting edge hardware systems the variety of work and exposure to new technologies make for a fascinating and challenging place to work.
